About the Artist
Andrew Stansell has been fascinated by furniture design for most of his
life. His interests date back to the designs found in his childhood home,
which was accented with 1950’s modern era furniture designs from
George Nelson, Herman Miller and Isamu Noguchi. He also derived early
inspiration from poring over his father’s books on architecture
and design.
He first gained practical furniture making experience in junior high school
wood and metal working classes, later on assisting others with bookcase
and cabinet making. More focused experience came during a hiatus between
his undergraduate and graduate studies, where he served as an assistant
to Lemuel Connelly, an experienced a woodworker, furniture maker and boat
builder. Here, he collaborated in the production of pieces ranging from
dining tables of white oak and slate to custom hardwood entertainment
centers for a local high-end audio components store.
